Maria Branyas, a 113 year old woman known as the oldest woman in Spain, has survived the Coronavirus disease.
Maria Branyas ‘ recovery from the coronavirus disease was confirmed in a statement from her retirement home which also stated that several other residents in the same retirement home died from the disease.
Branyas’ daughter Rosa Moret said her mother was “in shape, eager to talk, to elucidate , to reflect, she has become herself again”.
Maria Branyas, who was born within the US, became infected in April at the Santa Maria del Tura care home in the eastern city of Olot, where she has lived for the past 20 years, and fought the respiratory disease off in isolation in her room.
“She survived the disease and is doing fine,” a spokeswoman for the residence told AFP, adding Branyas had only displayed mild symptoms.
“She feels good now, she took a test last week and the result was negative,” the spokeswoman said without giving further details.
Branyas lived through the flu pandemic of 1918-19, the 1936-39 Spanish Civil War and 2020’s Coronavirus pandemic.
