At times, some women experience frequent breast pain which might be something negative while most times, it is as a result of what our body is reacting to or an activity.
Let’s look at some reasons why women feel pain in the breast:
- Too much stress
Rigorous stress can lead to mysterious breast pain. Emotional stress cab create hormonal imbalances, leading to cyclical breast pain, even when you are not on your period. Breast pain can change its pattern with the hormone changes that happen during times of stress which can be increased or decreased. Hormonal pain can be felt in both breasts as hormones tends to affect both breast equally.
- Your period
Pain in the breast comes and go with your cycle and it is caused by monthly hormonal shifts you experience. The sensitivity of women to these changes differs which makes some women experience it regularly while some experience it randomly or they never experienced it at all.
- Your bra
Breast pain can be caused by an ill-fitting bra and that is due to underwear pushing into the tissue of the breast in a really uncomfortable way. Jostling your breast around can aggravate the tissue and cause pain no matter the size of your bust. Bra related pain is more common among women with large breast or those who do vigorous types of activity like running. That’s why it is essential to have the support you need for whatever activity you’re doing.
Breast infections are most common among women who are breast feeding. These infections can form within the breast tissue in a condition called mastitis-caused by bacteria. It also happens if milk get backed up in the milk duct causing a build-up of bacteria. Women who are not breast infections tho they are less common. In these case, the infection can be traced back to damage to the nipple, including piercings.
Hormonal medications, especially birth control can lead to pain in the breast, because you are getting a dose of hormones different from what the body sees normally. Though the mechanism behind this is not fully understood at this point but we do know that some women definitely notice breast pain with these drugs. Other drugs that cause similar pain include those prescribed for acne or hair loss, high blood pressure, etc.
